All of us at the ITI are delighted to join the board in congratulating our co-founder, Roelf Meyer, as South Africa’s next Ambassador to the United States of America. The diplomatic assignment comes at a pivotal moment when the two countries are focused on rebuilding trust underpinned by trade, economic cooperation and national security interests. An effective execution of this mandate will contribute to our collective national efforts of ultimately reducing the levels of poverty and inequality.
Roelf is a living proof of how far we have come as a nation, as well as how far we still have to go. Given his national and international recognition as an accomplished statesman, President Ramaphosa could not have chosen a more qualified leader to represent South Africa’s interests in the United States, the world’s largest economy.
As a negotiator, eminent political and business leader, Roelf brings the necessary gravitas to the role. We are confident that he will succeed in advancing and deepening commercial ties for the mutual benefit of the two countries. The challenges our country faces today, can only be overcome if South Africans are joined at the hip, facing in the same direction, with our society acting in tandem as a giant penguin huddle.
As a result of this appointment, Roelf will step down from all executive responsibilities at ITI, but he remains a non-executive director.
We are grateful for his patriotism and continuing service to our country and wish him a successful term of office.
